Michele Cheng, M.A.
Psychometrist
Michèle P. Cheng, M.A. specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and works collaboratively with the adults in their lives to foster positive and accepting environments for them. She has gained a strong foundation in bilingual (French/English) psychological and neuropsychological assessment, mental health and academic intervention, as well as individual and system-wide consultation. Specifically, she has expertise in working with children and youth with a variety of mental health difficulties, including anxiety, mood disorders, emotion and behaviour regulation, learning and attention difficulties, trauma, and traumatic brain injuries. She draws from various therapeutic orientations, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), emotion-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness to create treatment plans that empower children and youth to become the heroes they all have the potential to be. To accomplish this goal, she strives to offer reflective, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
Michèle is currently completing her doctoral degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the School and Applied Child Psychology Program. Her educational background also includes a Master of Arts degree at UBC, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from McGill University. She completed her pre-doctoral psychology residency at the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, where she provided assessment and treatment services to children and youth with multicultural and diverse backgrounds, as well as mental health and learning challenges. She also obtained extensive experience at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic in neuropsychology, and The Children’s Foundation, where she offered trauma-informed outpatient therapy for children and youth, and parenting workshops for underserved populations.
